To our Authors:
WSIC is now offering payments using moneygram. If you are in a country that uses this system you may now request payment using this method. Please note that this is more expensive than us issuing a cheque and as such if you choose this method of payment, we will recover anything over and above the $3.00 that it would have cost us to issue a cheque from future royalties.

We are making a change in our royalty posting web pages for our authors. Instead of updated royalty reports only being posted every quarter we will now be posting them as we are informed of payments made to us from our different retailers. Royalties will still be paid every quarter as noted below (September 26, 2011 post) but now authors will get more up to date information as to what they can expect.

Amazon has started a new program called Book Borrowing. Our review of this program seems to indicate that it is another name for giving certain readers free books once per month, give or take. The idea is Amazon puts a pool of money into this program every month and that pool is then shared out proportionately to each book “Borrowed” for that month. For the month of December Amazon has put $500,000 in the pool. We are still not sure how this is going to effect our authors and we are monitoring the situation carefully. The way they explain it for an example is as follows:
Dollars in pool $500,000
Total number of all books borrowed 100,000
Total number of one author’s book borrowed 10
Amount earned for borrowed books = (500,000/100,000 * 10) = $50. So as you can see the benefit could be good or bad, for example if instead of 100,000 total books borrowed it is a million then the above earnings would be $5.
Authors will start seeing a new column on their webpages named Amazon Borrowed. This will indicate how many of the author’s ebooks have been “sold” under the borrowed program.
One restriction that Amazon puts on us is that all ebooks in the “Borrowed” program must not be available for sale anywhere else during the period it is in the program. We are thinking about trying this for any new ebooks that we published and perhaps giving Amazon 30-60 exclusive rights for each new title, but this will depend on whether the program is good for our authors or not.

Authors will begin to see two new columns on their monthly and quarterly sales reporting webpages. These columns will be named Goggle Ad Earnings and Goggle sale. The Goggle sale column will report number of ebooks sold the same as all the other sales column as this will portray the number of ebooks sold on our new partner Goggle Ebooks. The Goggle Ad Earnings sales come from our partnership with Goggle on the Preview Program. This preview program is where readers can preview 20 – 30 percent of any of the ebooks we have for sale. When a viewer previews an ebook a Goggle click ad is often inserted on the webpage. If the reader clicks on this ad we make earnings on it. The earnings we make on these ads will be paid to authors at the same royalty rate as they earn on ebook sales. The author’s monthly sales webpages will have a “Yes” in any month where an author’s ebook earns money from these click ads. The actual amount earned will be reported on the author’s quarterly reports.
